Ganoderma Lucidum, the "God's Herb"

Ganoderma Lucidum, also known as Reishi or Ling Zhi is a fungi that has been known to the Asian world for over two thousands years. In China it was called "God's Herb" and Chinese Emperors believed that the consumption of Reishi would grant them eternal youth and enhanced health. Because of its rarity in nature, Ganoderma Lucidum was reserved for Asian royalty and wealthy people. As a result of its prestigious status in Traditional Chinese Medicine, since the first Chinese dynasty, paintings, embroideries and sculptures have depicted Reishi as a symbol of longevity and good fortune.

Even the traditional scepter of the emperors of China was a stylized Reishi

Its amazing properties have been used by Oriental cultures for centuries, but have been only recently introduced to the Western world. Nowadays, the mass cultivation of Ganoderma Lucidum made the once rare fungi plant widely available to the general public.

Ganoderma Lucidum mushrooms have an exceptionally high polysaccharide content that is responsible for strengthening the body's immune system. But Ganoderma Lucidum's greatest medical benefit is its ability to strengthen the body's immune system; consumption of this mushroom is therefore considered also preventive and immune enhancing.

Ganoderma Lucidum is gaining credence as an adaptogen - i.e. helps the body to adapt to various kind of stresses like: trauma, sleep deprivation, temperature too low or too high, infection, exposure to toxins and radiation, psychological stress, etc.

Regular consumption of Ganoderma Lucidum is causing no side effects and can significantly improve the functioning of the immune system, helping the organism to return to a normal and balanced state.

At the present time Ganoderma Lucidum is also used to decrease the unpleasant side effects of chemotherapy.

Ganoderma Lucidum products have also demonstrated exceptional anti-stress properties that help improve memory, ease tension and sharpen concentration. Its potency is particularly noteworthy in the treatment of degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia.

Published human studies demonstrated that the regular consumption of Ganoderma Lucidum has the following effects:

- It reduces the coagulation of blood and transforms red blood cells, which thus are able to travel through blood vessels at greater ease, therefore reducing the odds of clogging, strokes and heart attacks. An improved circulation is extremely important for diabetic people, who invariably develop small artery disease.

- Improves blood circulation, lower the blood pressure and the "bad" cholesterol, corrects some arrythmias

- May rejuvenate the liver cells, allowing it to perform better.

- Decrease gastric acid and regulate bowel movements, relieving symptoms of constipation and diarrhea.

-By blocking the mediators of inflammation, symptoms of asthma can be alleviated, and by boosting the immune system, colds and flu's are reduced, leading to less exacerbations of asthma. Ganoderma Lucidum products are used as an anti-tussive and an expectorant. It may even enhance the regeneration of tracheal and small airway epithelium, particularly important in patients who smoke and suffer from chronic bronchitis (smokers' cough).

-It may aid in the regulatory functions of the kidney.

-Regular consumption of Ganoderma Lucidum has been proven to stimulate the production of interferon and interleukins I and II, potent natural anti-cancer substances produced in our body.

- Furthermore, recent researches claim that some polysaccharides possess powerful anti-tumor properties, by activating the essential immune cells called "macrophages", which are our body's first line of defense against microbial intruders such as viruses, bacteria and yeast.

- Ganoderma Lucidum has blood sugar lowering properties, and it regulates glucose levels in Type II Diabetes cases, without the side effects of medications.

- When combined with other herbs, can significantly reduce Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) levels. The mechanism is unknown, but it can occur as early as one-month treatment.

- Anti-HIV substances have been found in Ganoderma Lucidum and there is anecdotal evidence that it lowers the viral load and increases the CD4 counts, baying considered at a very promising weapon against AIDS.

In conclusion, medical research and individual case studies have shown Ganoderma Lucidum to be effective in treating numerous conditions and diseases. Perhaps even more important it is the fact that through purification, improved blood flow, immune modulation, detoxification, rejuvenation and revitalization, Ganoderma Lucidum can enhance the body's ability to combat a multitude of diseases, particularly those that occur more frequently with advanced age.
